Ingredients:

For the Nachos:

  • 1 bag of tortilla chips (about 10-12 oz)
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet taco seasoning (or make your own with chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese (or a mix)

Toppings (optional, but recommended):

  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/4 cup pickled jalapeƱo slices
  • 1/4 cup sliced green onions
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • Sour cream
  • Guacamole
  • Salsa

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Ground Beef

  1. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook for another 3-5 minutes until the onions are soft.
  3. Drain excess fat from the skillet, then add the taco seasoning and 1/4 cup of water. Stir well and let the beef simmer for about 3-5 minutes, until the seasoning is evenly distributed, and the mixture thickens slightly. Remove from heat.

Step 2: Assemble the Nachos

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Spread the tortilla chips evenly on a large baking sheet or oven-safe platter.
  3. Spoon the seasoned ground beef evenly over the chips.
  4. Sprinkle the shredded cheese generously over the beef and chips.

Step 3: Bake the Nachos

  1. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
  2. Carefully remove the nachos from the oven.

Step 4: Add Toppings and Serve

  1. Add your preferred toppings (diced tomatoes, olives, jalapeƱos, green onions, and cilantro) over the melted cheese.
  2. Serve with sour cream, guacamole, and salsa on the side.
