Ingredients:
For the Nachos:
- 1 bag of tortilla chips (about 10-12 oz)
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 packet taco seasoning (or make your own with chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper)
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese (or a mix)
Toppings (optional, but recommended):
- 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
- 1/4 cup sliced black olives
- 1/4 cup pickled jalapeƱo slices
- 1/4 cup sliced green onions
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- Sour cream
- Guacamole
- Salsa
Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the Ground Beef
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook for another 3-5 minutes until the onions are soft.
- Drain excess fat from the skillet, then add the taco seasoning and 1/4 cup of water. Stir well and let the beef simmer for about 3-5 minutes, until the seasoning is evenly distributed, and the mixture thickens slightly. Remove from heat.
Step 2: Assemble the Nachos
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Spread the tortilla chips evenly on a large baking sheet or oven-safe platter.
- Spoon the seasoned ground beef evenly over the chips.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheese generously over the beef and chips.
Step 3: Bake the Nachos
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
- Carefully remove the nachos from the oven.
Step 4: Add Toppings and Serve
- Add your preferred toppings (diced tomatoes, olives, jalapeƱos, green onions, and cilantro) over the melted cheese.
- Serve with sour cream, guacamole, and salsa on the side.
